Artist Statement
We have lived in our bodies since birth, where the formation of our psychological traits and desires takes place. But despite its presence in our everyday experiences, the body remains absent; we seek its prominence in our interactions with the world, yet our past, culture, and upbringing overlook it in silence. It is only when we become aware of the lived presence of the body, or our social body, that a kind of discomfort transforms the absent body into the present one. The clumsiness and shame of appearances are indicators of our awareness of others' awareness of our bodies. We not only seek to see ourselves as others see us but also need to know who we are through the eyes of others. We expose ourselves to a multitude of observers, and this is deeper than honesty. The people facing us witness this revelation; are we honest enough to confess to these truths? Can we manifest all that flows within us in a state beyond honesty? Are we enough for ourselves?
